Upholding the principle "nothing about us without us", the Global Resource for Anti-Corruption Education (GRACE) initiative has launched the “YouthLED" Integrity Advisory Board in 2022. The Board members work as "co-leading partners" to UNODC and the GRACE team in all its activities. It is comprised of brilliant, curious and knowledgeable young talents from around the world who are keen to contribute to anti-corruption efforts and building a culture of integrity and ethics locally, regionally and globally. 25 April 2024 — UNODC's Programme Office in Kazakhstan, in cooperation with the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Narxoz University held the conference entitled "Anti-corruption Education: International Experience and Development Prospects in Kazakhstan" in Almaty. Particular attention was paid to the overview of the UNODC “Global Resource for Anti-Corruption Education and Youth Empowerment” (GRACE) Initiative. 24 January 2024 — “That’s not fair!” protested Paul, a nine-year-old boy, making sure that everyone in the room heard him. Paul’s reaction to an unfair game outcome spurred a lively debate about rules and honesty among his classmates, who were participating in the Little Leaders, Big Impact: Young Guardians of Integrity Conference, a pilot activity by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s (UNODC) Global Resource for Anti-Corruption Education and Youth Empowerment (GRACE) Initiative. Children were asked to write a number from one to ten on a piece of paper. If a child chose the same number as the facilitator, they were informed, then they would receive a prize. Read more
12 December 2023 — During the 10th session of the Conference of States Parties (CoSP10) to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), countries, international organizations, civil society organizations, academia and youth gathered to discuss the achievements of anti-corruption efforts during the past two decades. One of the priorities of the host country of CoSP10 was to make it as inclusive as possible by supporting the participation of non-governmental actors – civil society organizations, representatives from academia and the private sector and young people. For the first time, young people participated not only in various events throughout the conference but also in the conference itself, to remind delegates how corruption impacts the life of millions of youth around the world. SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 12 November 2023 — In the margins of the 10th Session of the Conference of the States Parties (CoSP) to the UNCAC, UNODC and the Government of the United States of America are joining forces to organize the "Young Changemakers Event", which will take place on 10 December 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia (USA).
UNODC is therefore inviting youth, under 30, to submit their virtual/digital artwork to its global call for submissions to give the opportunity to every member of society to tell us in creative ways what corruption means for them. Read more

17-18 October 2023 — Over 25 participants from Asia and Europe gathered in Vienna to participate in the Regional Dialogue. Various panel discussions on relevant topics for these regions and globally preceded a series of group discussions to develop a set of recommendations on how young people, academia and civil society can be more involved in the implementation of UNCAC as well as what they would need from member states to feel supported in their efforts. 31 August - 1 September 2023 — Measuring corruption is essential for understanding its causes, consequences and trends, as well as for designing and evaluating effective responses. By developing reliable and comparable indicators and data, we can enhance transparency, accountability and evidence-based policymaking in the fight against corruption. From 31 August to 1 September 2023, UNODC and the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) are joining forces in hosting the first Global Conference on Harnessing Data to Improve Corruption Measurement. 15-17 August 2023 — Active learning is a classroom approach that focuses on how students learn, not just what they learn. Opportunities provided by teachers, such as enquiry-led tasks and open-ended questions, challenge the students and supports them to build knowledge and their own understanding. Active-learning techniques and learner-centred approaches were chosen as the foundation of the teaching methodology of the Malawi primary sourcebook entitled “Teaching Values for a Corruption-Free Malawi”. Strasbourg, France, 25 July 2023 — “Theatre is a form of knowledge and can be a means of transforming society.” Augusto Boal, the famous and late Brazilian Theatre Director and father of the ‘Forum Theatre’, was describing the transformative power of theatre when used as teaching resource to spark positive change in youth. “Theatre can help us build our future,” he once declared, “rather than just waiting for it.” The world today is home to the largest generation of youth in history. With 1.2 billion people between the ages of 15 and 24, working for and with young people is crucial to accelerate change and advance progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Nairobi, Kenya, 19-20 June 2023 — Following up on the regional dialogue in Latin America on regional and global efforts to advance the anti-corruption agenda for CSOs, Youth and Academia, the UNODC’s GRACE initiative conducted the second regional dialogue in Nairobi, Kenya, together with UNODC’s Regional Offices in East Africa, North Africa, Southern Africa and West Africa, which brought together over 30 participants from Burkina Faso, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Nigeria, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Zimbabwe. 31 May 2023 — As a fundamental human right, access to education is crucial in promoting a peaceful and prosperous world. During times of war, however, the continued provision of education is even more crucial given its long-term impact on post-conflict efforts. In Ukraine, school and university closures have disrupted this delivery of education, with 1,888 education institutions having suffered bombing since the start of the war in 2022. The teaching of ethics, integrity and anti-corruption are important in promoting key values among young people. To advance this, UNODC has been working with the USAID Justice for All Activity to roll-out a set of dedicated university modules in Ukrainian. Read more
25-27 April 2023 — Each year the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum provides a platform for young people to express their ideas and concerns regarding the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda of the United Nations, whilst engaging in a direct dialogue with UN Member States and other relevant stakeholders. This year’s topic of ECOSOC and the 2023 UN High-level Political Forum on sustainable development (HLPF) was “Accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at levels”. 20-24 March 2023 — In Chichewa, one of the indigenous languages of Malawi, there is an old saying: “Kali kokha nkanyama; ali awiri ndi anthu”. Translated to “No man is an island,” it stems from the African indigenous philosophy of uMunthu and reflects the notion that no single person exists as an isolated individual, but rather as a member of their broader community. The values of ethics, integrity, altruism and empathy that reinforce uMunthu are also those key values that inspire and shape the UNODC’s work around primary education. Read more
23-24 February 2023 — UNODC organized a dialogue on regional and global efforts to advance the anti-corruption agenda in Latin America. The event brought together representatives of the civil society, academia and youth from 11 countries including Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru. The dialogue was the first of a series of events that aim to enhance the participation of non-State actors in the implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). Read more
24 December 2022 — Located about 40 kilometres outside Varanasi in India’s Uttar Pradesh state, the small village of Mirzamurad houses the Round Table Abhinav Vidyalaya (RTAV) – a rural school run by a small team of educators driven to make a change in young lives. UNODC connected with RTAV in 2020, while spearheading the Lockdown Learners series in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. To minimise the consumption of internet data and to make engagement cost effective for students, WhatsApp and audio notes were used to facilitate interactive discussions on social themes. Read more
15 December 2022 — The workshop brought together 12 academics from Australia, Hong Kong, South Africa and the United Kingdom, and aimed to enhance the participants' familiarity with the anti-corruption educational tools and materials developed by UNODC, consider practical approaches to using these tools in African universities and foster exchange and collaboration among participants in the areas of integrity and ethics education and research. 13 December 2022 — The GRACE initiative was honoured and privileged to be invited to present the youth empowerment portfolio of activities, at the launch of the YEA! Framework, together with the wider group of UNODC Youth Focal Points. 10 December 2022 — In the margins of the International Anti Corruption Conference (IACC 2022), the GRACE initiative was invited to join an expert panel to discuss the role of youth and technology to advance and strengthen anti-corruption efforts around the world. The Coding4Integrity Youth Anti-Corruption Hackathon series was presented as the UNODC flagship digital innovation and social entrepreneurship initiative aimed at empowering youth to take action against corruption in innovative ways. 3-4 December 2022 — Building on the success of the Kyoto Youth Forum, organized prior to the UN Crime Congress, and on the success of the first edition of the Global Youth Forum for a Culture of Lawfulness (CoL-YF) in 2021, the Ministry of Justice of Japan, in cooperation with UNODC, organized the second edition of the Global Youth Forum under the overarching theme of “The role of youth in achieving a diverse and inclusive society”. Against the backdrop of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the forum was aimed at engaging talented and committed young people in global policy dialogues on the topics of crime prevention, criminal justice, and the rule of law more broadly. 27 October 2022 — The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) of Hong Kong, the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), are joining forces to develop a knowledge tool intended to support anti-corruption authorities all over the world in meaningfully engaging youth in the national and global anti-corruption efforts. 13 October 2022 — Youth are the future of the United Nations, and they must be meaningfully engaged in order to define impactful avenues of cooperation to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges, particularly those related to the rule of law and corruption. 11 October 2022 — The GRACE initiative co-organized together with Libera and Mafianeindanke organizations an event in the margins of the EU Week of Regions and Cities titled “Empowering youth to become integrity leaders: monitoring the EU cohesion policies and recovery funds”. UNODC presented GRACE and its youth empowerment work and contributed to the interactive discussions aimed at addressing the importance of promoting the role of youth as integrity and anti-corruption leaders.
6 October 2022 — Following the historical Resolution 76/306, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on September 8, 2022, the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth (OSGEY) organized a virtual youth consutation to gather ideas and feedback from the world’s youth on the upcoming establishment of the UN Youth Office.

29 September 2022 — UNODC participated in a two-day Regional Conclave on Justice Education in Asia, organized by India's New Law College, Pune. Supported by the Global Alliance for Justice Education (GAJE), the conclave brought together educators and students from law schools in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, India, Iran, Iraq, Nepal and Pakistan. At the conclave, UNODC experts presented the Global Resource for Anti-Corruption Education (GRACE) Initiative and the Lockdown Learners series from South Asia. Read more
29 September 2022 — Mr. Sylvain Obedi Katindi, YouthLED Board member, met with Ms. Ina Kernstock-Kalbusch, UNODC Anti-Corruption Adviser based in Kinshasa, to discuss integrity, ethics and anti-corruption as gateways for meaningful engagement of young people in DRC. Mr Katindi, DRC national, co-founder and Executive Director of “Enable the Disable Action” (EDA), is an advocate for promotion of disability rights and he is interested in exploring the area of interlinkages between disability inclusion and integrity and ethics.
24-25 September 2022 — The second edition of the hackathon series took place in September 2022 in São Paulo, Brazil. The hackathon was organized in the context of the Global Action for Business Integrity and in synergy with the Global Integrity Education Project, both funded by the Siemens Integrity Initiative, and supported by the GRACE initiative. The hackathon participants were asked to develop an ICT-based idea or solution that addresses one of the following challenges: gender-sensitive reporting – an essential tool to detect and prevent Corruption; transparency and accessibility at the service of small businesses – guiding small companies through the bidding process; know your counterparts – enhancing access to information about business integrity. 22 September 2022 — Mr. Uchkun Abduganiyev, YouthLED Board member, visited the UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where he met with Ms. Lulua Asaad, Coordinator of the GRACE initiative.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the role of youth to advance anti-corruption in Central Asia, through the promotion of multilingualism and youth-led community level action.

12 August 2022 — UNODC's GRACE initiative & the Global Judicial Integrity Network joined forces to bring together young people, students & experts to talk about the future of integrity and rule of law. This year’s theme of the International Youth Day was “Intergenerational solidarity: Creating a world for all ages” and was aimed at amplifying the message that action is needed across all generations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and leave no one behind. The webinar brought together representatives from the judiciary, academia specialized in anti-corruption and young people, to discuss the importance of judicial integrity and countering of corruption within the judicial sector, including the GRACE YouthLED Integrity Advisory Board. 12 August 2022 — India’s National Education Policy 2020 champions a vision to “develop knowledge, skills, values, and dispositions that support responsible commitment to human rights, sustainable development and living, and global well-being, thereby reflecting a truly global citizen.” In this context, the Government of India, in partnership with the UNODC Regional Office for South Asia and the GRACE initiative, hosted a consultation with key government institutions on ‘Mainstreaming education on integrity, peace, SDGs and health: Empowering Youth, Educators and Families,’ on the occasion of the International Youth Day. 21-22 June 2022 — This year is the European “Year of Youth”! Join the GRACE initiative in celebrating the role of young people in building a better, safer, inclusive and just future! Elisa Orlando, YouthLED Integrity Advisory Board member, was in Brussels for the European Development Days (EDDs) 2022 on “Global Gateway: building sustainable partnerships for a connected world”. Elisa joined forces with many other youth representatives from all over the world to discuss quality education and youth empowerment and how important it is to uphold integrity, ethics and anti-corruption to achieve a lasting sustainable development. On behalf of YouthLED, Elisa moderated an online session on education and research on 15 June, and contributed to the drafting and presentation of Youth Recommendations to Senior EU and UN officials in an in-person event on 21-22 June.
15 June 2022 — UNODC, in partnership with the National Transparency Authority of Greece, organized a special event on meaningful engagement of youth in anti-corruption efforts to discuss how States can foster a culture of rejection of corruption by engaging young people in anti-corruption activities based on art and creativity. The event presented the outcomes of a student competition entitled “Integrity Leaders of Tomorrow” that UNODC supported in Greece in 2020.
9 June 2022 — In the margins of the UNODC workshop in Siem, Cambodia, YouthLED Integrity Advisory Board Member Bui Y Nhi met with Ms. Annika Wythes, UNODC Regional Office for South East Asia and Pacific. Bui Y Nhi presented inclusive ideas and solutions on designing anti-corruption initiatives for CSOs, aimed to engage the elderly, women, youth, schools and the private sector. Acknowledged that the fight against corruption is a long journey that requires effort from multi-sectoral groups, they emphasized that the youth sector is an important ally in anti-corruption initiatives, and encouraged creating more platforms to maximize the youth’s active participation in these efforts.
7-9 June 2022 — Ms. Bui Y Nhi and Mr. Dexter Yang, YouthLED Board members from Vietnam and the Philippines, joined UNODC for a CSO and Media Workshop held in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The three-day workshop brought together a key network of anti-corruption CSOs and media practitioners from Southeast Asia to share and discuss methods and tools for anti-corruption engagement. Bui Y Nhi and Dexter Yang presented the YouthLED Integrity Advisory Board and the role of youth in the global fight against corruption.
30 May 2022 — Mr. Kanhaiya Varshney, YouthLED Integrity Advisory Board member from India, met Mr. Samarth Pathak, Communications Officer, UNODC Regional Office for South Asia. At the meeting, the work of the Be Dauntless Foundation in the sphere of quality education for all, as well as the successful experience of the UNODC Lockdown Learners were presented. Further avenues of cooperation to strengthen youth empowerment for integrity, ethics and anti-corruption in the region were also discussed.
16 May 2022 — In the margins of the 31st session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), the GRACE initiative supported the launch of the children’s book “Animals in Danger: Vita and Scooter on a mission”, a joint initiative led by the Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment and Climate, which built on the previous successful experience of “The Zorbs” primary education resources of UNODC. The new book teaches children on wildlife crime, the environment, climate change and plastic pollution and how the beautiful yet endangered biodiversity of our planet is dependent on all of us behaving with ethics, integrity and civic values.

14 March 2022 — The first ever “YouthLED Integrity Advisory Board” finally together! 25 young people from 25 different countries join UNODC to ensure meaningful youth engagement in anti-corruption efforts.
8 March 2022 — In the margins of International Women’s Day, GRACE organized the online event “Empowering the future leaders of integrity to address the gender dimensions of corruption”. The event engaged young people from South-East Asia in a lively conversation around the linkages between corruption and gender. UNODC’s “The Time is Now” publication was presented and good practices of meaningful youth engagement from the South-East Asian and African Region were presented.
25 February 2022 — The GRACE Team, with support from the Government of Japan, held the closing episode of the South-East Asian Youth online dialogues started in 2021. The closing episode touched upon a variety of topics of relevance to GRACE’s mandate, such as the need to empower youth to be leaders and advocates for SDG16.
10-13 January 2022 — The GRACE initiative held a workshop on youth empowerment and anti-corruption in the margins of the fourth edition of the World Youth Forum that took place in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt.

11 October - 7 November 2021 — In an effort to strengthen the use of ICT in the promotion of anti-corruption efforts, UNODC partnered with a rich network of public and private actors, to organise the Coding4Integrity African Youth Anti-Corruption Hackathon. The hackathon was a four-week virtual programme aimed at building capacity of young coders from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa and giving them the chance to come up with their technological solutions to corruption in their countries.
