Mexico City, 23-24 February 2023 — The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime organized a dialogue on regional and global efforts to advance the anti-corruption agenda in Latin America. The event brought together representatives of the civil society, academia and youth from 11 countries including Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru.
The dialogue was the first of a series of events that aim to enhance the participation of non-State actors in the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and the General Assembly’s political declaration against corruption (UNGASS) in the lead up to the 10th session of the Conference of the State Parties to the Convention.
During the event, participants discussed how civil society, academia and youth can support the implementation of UNCAC and the UNGASS political declaration and UNCAC at national and regional levels, shared insights and experience on national anti-corruption activities and explore opportunities for collaboration at national and regional levels.
The dialogue concluded with the adoption of recommendations on how civil society organizations, academia and youth can make a greater contribution to the implementation of UNCAC and the UNGASS political declaration, and how their participation can be supported and scaled up to achieve greater impact. The recommendations adopted by this and the following regional dialogues will be presented to the Conference of the States Parties to the Convention at its tenth session, to be hosted by the United States of America in December 2023. The consolidated set of recommendations will provide a roadmap of thematic priorities and activities to strengthen multi-stakeholder engagement and partnerships among civil society, youth and academia to advance the global anti-corruption efforts.
