WORKSHOP ON INTEGRITY AND ETHICS EDUCATION FOR UNIVERSITY LECTURERS |
Stellenbosch, South Africa, 15 December 2022 – The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in cooperation with the Faculty of Law of the University of Stellenbosch organized a workshop on integrity and ethics education for university lecturers. The event brought together 12 academics from Australia, Hong Kong, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
The event aimed to enhance the participants' familiarity with the anti-corruption educational tools and materials developed by UNODC, consider practical approaches to using these tools in African universities and foster exchanges and collaboration among participants in the areas of integrity and ethics education and research.
During the workshop, participants discussed methodological issues and approaches to developing integrity and ethics curricula and teaching across various tertiary courses and disciplines. They learned about the UNODC Module Series on Anti-Corruption and Integrity and Ethics and discussed how to use and adapt the modules in order to meet the needs and objectives of their own courses. Based on their experiences, participants also shared recommendations to UNODC on how to improve or supplement its existing tools and materials to enhance their overall quality and effectiveness. As a follow up to the workshop, participants will teach at least one of the modules during the next academic semester and will provide UNODC with feedback on the quality and user-friendliness of the materials.
The workshop was held under the auspices of the Global Resource for Anti-Corruption Education and Youth Empowerment (GRACE) initiative.
